About Shangri-La High Tea
Shangri-La High Tea is served on level 36 of the Shangri-La hotel at 176 Cumberland Street in The Rocks, with floor-to-ceiling views over Sydney Harbour, the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. The hotel pitches it for birthdays, bridal showers and other milestones, and the setting does most of the work for a special-occasion afternoon. The high tea comes on three tiers: finger sandwiches, warm savouries such as quiche and sausage rolls, a row of petite cakes and tarts, and scones with jam and cream. The menu changes with the seasons, and the current spring menu supports the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Separate vegan menus are available on weekdays and weekends. The tea list focuses on Australian blends, from bush breakfast and smoked redgum to alpine sencha and spiced wattleseed chai, and barista coffee is included. Weekday high tea is $98 per person with tea and coffee, $128 with free-flow Australian sparkling wine, or $168 with free-flow Champagne; weekend prices are $10 higher. A 10 per cent service charge applies to tables of eight or more, a 15 per cent surcharge applies on Sundays and public holidays, and seating is limited to 90 minutes. Cocktails, mocktails and Champagne by the glass or bottle are also available. The dress code is casual. Diners at the hotel's restaurants can use valet parking at a set rate of $45 for up to four hours, and reservations can be made through the hotel on (02) 9250 6000.
