Life Drawing Chippendale

Chippendale sits just south-west of Central, around the Central Park precinct and the laneway dining of Kensington Street, which makes it an easy place to gather a group on a weeknight. Gladdy Drawing Club meets on level 1 of The Lord Gladstone Hotel on Regent Street, with a different professional model each week. It feels closer to an art club than a lesson: beginners sit alongside illustrators, architects, animators and designers, and nobody is judged on their work. That makes it a relaxed option for a team outing, or for a hens group that wants something creative and low-key.

For groups planning a session:

• Getting there: Central station is a short walk and parking is limited, so public transport is the easiest way in.
• The experience: each hour-and-a-half session opens with two-minute and five-minute poses, breaks for drinks, then moves to longer standing, seated and reclining poses.
• Group size: public classes are limited to twenty people, and private bookings for workplaces and special occasions are arranged with the organisers.
• Booking lead time: private events are arranged directly with the organisers by email, so get in touch early with your preferred date and numbers.
• Food and drinks: the class takes a break for drinks partway through, and being held in a pub keeps things casual.

Public classes run every Tuesday at 6pm and 8pm, from $22 per person, and they're a good way for an organiser to try the format before booking a private session. The club describes itself as a safe space for women and the LGBTQIA+ community. It hosts hens parties and mixed hens and bucks groups when the fit is right, but does not run bucks parties.
