About Sydney Harbour Party Boats

Sydney Harbour Party Boats is the trading name of Calypso Cruises Pty Ltd, based at Lavender Bay Wharf. The business is built around its own vessel, MV Kraken, a 50-foot, two-level party boat with a bar, dance floor, DJ booth and party lighting downstairs and an open deck with fairy lights upstairs. Alongside Kraken, the team books a small group of partner boats picked for value: Mayfair, a 44-foot cruiser for up to 25; Day by Day, a 47-foot cruiser for 10 to 20; and Harbourcat, a 41-foot catamaran for up to 44 with a trampoline on the bow. Most bookings are private charters for birthdays, 21sts, bucks and hens nights, work parties and Christmas functions. You can BYO food and drink to keep costs down, add a drinks package or a BBQ menu, or take the Kraken bucks package, which covers a three-hour cruise with beer, wine and spirits and a BBQ lunch. Topless waitresses and adult shows can be added to that package at extra cost. Kraken also hosts ticketed nights such as New Year's Eve and Boxing Day cruises, Latin nights out of Manly and backpacker cruises. Hire is by the hour. Mayfair has a three-hour minimum and Day by Day four hours, and the deposit is usually the first hour's hire, with the balance due 14 days before the cruise. Pick-up can be arranged at wharves around the harbour and up the Parramatta and Lane Cove rivers, with a travel fee for wharves far from the CBD. On Kraken, BYO drinks stay in eskies on the lower deck so the crew can manage responsible service, and substantial food must be on board. It suits groups after a lively, affordable party boat rather than a formal function vessel.

Kraken is from $500 an hour from May to September and $600 an hour from October to April. Day by Day is $600 an hour, rising to $650 from October to March, with a four-hour minimum. How We Work

Start with the enquiry form, giving the occasion, preferred boat, date and time, guest numbers, budget and your food and drink preferences. The team checks the boat's availability and answers questions. Paying the deposit, usually the first hour's hire, reserves your date and time, and you receive a cruise confirmation with all the details to check. The remaining balance is due 14 days before the cruise. You choose where to be picked up and dropped off, and decide between BYO, drinks packages or catering; food and drinks can usually be delivered to the boat before boarding so everything is set up when you arrive. On the day the skipper and crew run the boat, and on Kraken the DJ booth, sound and lighting are already set up, so you can plug in a phone or bring a DJ.
