Sydney Harbour Escapes is a family charter agency started in November 2000 by owner Dominic Coleman and his wife, and now run from an office at 2C Margaret Street, Woolwich, after years at Rose Bay Marina. It does not rely on a single boat. Instead it represents more than 140 vessels from partner owners and operators, including small BYO catamarans and power boats, sailing yachts, classic cruisers, glass-walled pontoons and superyachts, for groups from a handful of people up to 950. Bookings are made under the Charter Boat Agents Association's standard terms. Parties make up much of the work. Birthday cruises range from a swim and BBQ on a BYO catamaran to a sit-down dinner on a larger boat. Hens groups often choose sailing catamarans or cruisers for 20 to 45, and staff Christmas parties are a big part of the year, with Friday and Saturday dates in November and December often gone by August. Corporate groups can add team activities such as laser clay shooting, sailing regattas or quiz rallies, and the team can arrange entertainers, DJs, flowers, balloons and catering. Small party boats start from $170 an hour. You send an enquiry or call, and the team checks availability on suitable boats and emails a free quote that lists all the costs, so you can compare vessels, catering and drinks. A 50% deposit and a signed contract secure the booking, final numbers and the balance are due 14 days out, and a $2,000 credit card bond applies unless the boat states otherwise. Most charters have a four-hour minimum, though some boats offer shorter times, and boat inspections are welcome. It suits hosts who want several boats in one quote rather than calling operators one by one.
