About Hire a Stage

Hire a Stage is an Alexandria staging specialist that has been building stages for Sydney events for more than fifteen years. The stages are modular: German-engineered aluminium panels with a tongue-and-groove locking system and an internal cam lock, a marine ply core and a non-slip matt black top rated to around 750kg per square metre. Nothing is cut or made on site, so the build goes up fast and comes apart the same way. The company is a regular supplier to schools, councils, RSL clubs and churches, and also covers awards nights, graduations, concerts and festivals, fashion shows, promotions, choir and carols performances and bridal tables. Sizes start at a one-metre-square riser and run to a 10m x 6m stage, with catwalk and runway combinations and tiered platforms for choirs. Heights begin at 30cm and step up in 10cm increments to a metre, railing is recommended above 80cm and required by law above 90cm, and stair modules are added in 20cm steps. Skirting comes with every stage. The same booking can carry PA systems, wireless and lapel microphones, lecterns, TVs, projectors and screens, par cans, moving lights, lasers, strobes and UV, smoke, bubble, dry ice and dry sparkler machines, black, white or red drapes, and tables, chairs, stools and linen. Delivery, installation and pack-down run seven days a week between 8am and 4pm in four-hour windows, with the crew usually setting up the day before or four to six hours before the start. Both are charged on top of the hire and quoted from the location, the stage size, the access and the time of day. Stages can be levelled on uneven ground using mixed leg heights, and ground protection can be added where a floor needs looking after.

Stages are priced by area at $50 per square metre: $50 for a 1m x 1m riser, $200 for a 2m x 2m, $300 for a 3m x 2m, $600 for a 6m x 2m, $1,200 for a 6m x 4m, $2,000 for a 10m x 4m and $3,000 for a 10m x 6m. Catwalk and runway combinations are listed separately at $400, $450, $700 and $900. Event furniture starts at $2.75 for a white plastic chair, $5 for a black padded folding chair and $12 for a conference chair, with trestle tables from $14, round banquet tables $35, bar tables $35 to $40, hairpin and wire cocktail tables $50 to $60 and table linen $15 to $20. On the AV side a projector screen is $40, a projector $90, a projector and screen package $130, a PA system $150, a wireless microphone $100, a lectern $110 and a TV $450, with conference AV packages at $445 and $575. Lighting is $30 for a par can, strobe or UV light, $50 to $60 for lasers and $70 for a disco ball with pinspot. Effect machines are $40 for smoke, $45 for bubbles, $495 for dry ice and $1,000 for dry sparklers, and drapes are $195 to $945 depending on the size. Delivery and installation are extra and quoted for the job.

Credit card details or a bond are held to cover damage, theft, cleaning or equipment that cannot be collected at the agreed time, and a booking covers a single day unless a longer period is agreed in writing. Cancellations outside 48 hours of the event date are charged at 50 per cent, and inside 48 hours at the full amount.

What is included when I hire a stage?

How far ahead should I book?

Hire a Stage does not publish a cut-off, but the booking terms are worth planning around. A cancellation more than 48 hours before the event date is charged at 50 per cent and one inside 48 hours at the full amount, and delivery time slots are only confirmed in the week of the event. If the ground is uneven or access is tight, a site inspection may be needed before they can quote.

When do you set up and pack down?

The crew usually builds the day before the event, or at least four to six hours before it starts, and can work to specific access times if you have them. Delivery and collection run seven days a week between 8am and 4pm, excluding public holidays, in either an 8am to 12pm or a 12pm to 4pm window. Delivery is to ground level only, and extra charges apply for stairs, changes of level or a carry of more than ten metres from where the truck can park.
