About Pelican Boat Hire Noosa
Pelican Boat Hire Noosa works from the Noosa River foreshore in Noosaville, right beside The Big Pelican. The family-owned business grew out of Noosa Marine Services, which began hiring small tinnies from the same spot back in 1957. Today it also runs a slipway, a fuel dock and a riverside kiosk alongside the hire fleet. For groups, the main attraction is the fleet of BBQ pontoons. They range from the eight-seat Partikraft through several 12-seat models and a 16-seat boat to the 21-seat Huge pontoon, which the operator describes as a party boat for families, groups of friends and pre-wedding gatherings. Every pontoon carries a barbecue, so the group can cruise for a while, find a calm spot and cook lunch on the water. The 21-seat pontoon's price covers fuel, fishing gear and the required safety equipment, and a skipper can be requested for it. Pontoon hirers must be at least 25 and hold a driver licence, and a recreational boat licence is needed once more than 12 passengers are aboard. Runabouts, bowriders, kayaks and stand up paddle boards round out the fleet for anyone who wants to head off separately.

Frequently asked questions
How many people fit on the BBQ pontoons?
The pontoons come in several sizes: the eight-seat Partikraft, a number of 12-seat models, a 16-seat pontoon and the 21-seat Huge pontoon, which is the largest boat in the self-drive fleet.
What does a pontoon cost?
Pontoons are priced by hire length. The Partikraft is $140 for one hour or $410 for four, the 16-seat pontoon is $200 for one hour or $500 for four, and the 21-seat pontoon is $240 for one hour or $630 for four.
Who can drive a hire pontoon?
Pontoon hirers need to be at least 25 years old and hold a driver licence. On the 21-seat pontoon, a recreational boat licence is also required whenever more than 12 passengers are on board.
Is there a minimum hire length?
A four-hour minimum may apply to pontoon bookings on weekends and during peak periods, so it is worth checking the hire length for your date when booking.
Can we fish from the pontoon?
Yes. Fishing gear and eskies can be borrowed from the hire base, and the 21-seat pontoon's price already includes fuel, fishing gear and the required safety equipment.
