About Carmel Cider Co
Carmel Cider Co is a family-run cider maker on a third-generation apple and pear orchard in Carmel, in the Perth Hills. Founder and head cider maker Andrew Carruthers runs the operation, and the focus is on traditional-method sparkling ciders built on good orchard fruit. The cellar door suits groups who want to taste their way through the range. Paddles cover the bottle-fermented ciders, the core ciders or the house spirits, and booked groups can add a walk through the production shed, with the maker explaining what is in each glass. Groups of more than 12 are asked to arrange a time in advance, and the guided tour is by booking only. After the tasting, pints and middies of the traditional, rosé and mid-strength apple ciders are poured at the bar, and 19-litre kegs can be refilled on weekends. The packing shed and pop-up bar are also hired out for private functions, holding about 250 standing or 150 seated, with catering and furniture brought in from outside suppliers. Visitors are welcome to wander the orchard rows, which change from spring blossom to autumn colour through the year.
