About Scarborough Beach Surf School
Scarborough Beach Surf School is a family-run surf school that has taught on the Perth coast since 1986. Lessons start from the school's van and trailer on the lawn behind the Manning Street car park, and coaches stay in the water with students the whole time. Group classes run for 2.25 hours with three to six students, and suit teens from 13 and adults, from first-timers to intermediates working on green waves. Classes are split by ability, and the school also puts together corporate packages for workplaces. Private lessons run for 90 minutes for a group of up to eight friends, relatives or workmates aged 10 and over. A dedicated coach sets goals and builds the lesson around the group's level. Every lesson includes a softboard and an O'Neill wetsuit, and bags are locked in the van or trailer while the group surfs. Lessons run early in the morning, when winds are lighter, crowds are smaller and parking is easy to find. From June to September the school moves its lessons to Leighton Beach, where the winter waves are gentler for learners. Cancellations need 24 hours notice.
