About Australian Kayaking Adventures
Australian Kayaking Adventures is a family-run guiding business led by owner Steven Vah, who has taken visitors and locals out on Gold Coast waterways for more than 20 years. Tours use stable double sit-on-top kayaks, and most guests have never paddled before. Groups have three main formats to choose from. The half-day island trip takes up to 18 people, with a light breakfast, time snorkelling off Wavebreak Island, a walk led by the guide across South Stradbroke Island and a stop at a surf beach. The sunset option takes up to 22, looping through the Surfers Paradise waterways as the sun goes down, with a glass of white wine back on shore for anyone who wants one. The third format is kayak and paddle board hire for up to 28, where people pick up the skill and then explore at their own speed or race each other. Team building is the main group offer, with activities shaped around what the team needs. Hens and bucks parties, social clubs and sporting groups are also welcome. On the Broadwater runs, the guides watch for dolphins, turtles and stingrays, and dolphins turn up on around 80% of morning tours. Snorkellers then meet schools of sub-tropical fish just off the sand. The river paddles leave from Budds Beach and pass waterfront homes on the way to Macintosh Island and its peacocks. Frequently asked questions
How many people can join a group outing?
It depends on the format. The half-day island trip caters for up to 18, the sunset paddle for up to 22 and kayak and paddle board hire for up to 28 people.
What does a team or group booking cost?
Team days are priced from $45 a head, with 15 people the minimum. Standard public tours are priced separately, such as $89 for an adult on the sunset paddle.
Do people need kayaking experience or need to be able to swim?
No experience is needed, as guides teach the kayaking and snorkelling basics first. Lifejackets are provided, and non-swimmers should tell the guide and keep theirs on throughout, including while snorkelling.
What should the group bring?
Pack swimmers, a towel, a hat, sunglasses, sunblock, a bottle of water and shoes that can get wet. The operator supplies the kayaks, paddles, lifejackets and snorkelling equipment.
Are there age or weight limits?
Limits vary by tour, with the paddle board tour for ages 12 and over and under 16s accompanied by an adult. Kayak tours have a limit of 110kg a person and 200kg a kayak, and tours are not advised from 20 weeks of pregnancy.
