About Ricardo Steyer
Ricardo Steyer is a Brazilian guitarist and vocalist from Porto Alegre who has lived in Sydney since 2012. He started out in Brazil's rock and pop-rock scene in the early 2000s, then turned to the music of his homeland after moving here. His main instrument since 2015 has been the 7-string guitar, which he studied at the Raphael Rabello choro school under Fernando César. In Sydney he has opened for touring international artists at The Factory Theatre and The Concourse Chatswood, and has been part of building the local choro scene since 2014. He offers several acts for events. The solo show is guitar and vocals built on bossa nova, samba and MPB, drawing on Chico Buarque, Joao Gilberto, Tom Jobim, Djavan and Caetano Veloso. Steyer Brothers is a guitar duo with his brother, playing Brazilian guitar repertoire alongside instrumental bossa nova and jazz standards. The Ricardo Steyer Choro Ensemble adds instruments such as mandolin, flute, sax, clarinet and pandeiro for traditional and contemporary choro. Brasilidades is the party option, a samba and groove band that also comes as a compact 3 to 5 piece for private and corporate events. The solo and duo formats suit wedding ceremonies, cocktail hours, dinners and gala events where the music needs to sit behind conversation. The larger groups suit birthday parties, festivals and receptions where guests want to dance.
