Amplified Artistry is a Sydney face painting and body art business run by Richelle, working with a small team of trained artists. The core service is face painting for kids and adults, and the work ranges from a quick one-sided butterfly or a tiger to full-face superhero designs, sugar skulls and Halloween wounds. Alongside it they do glitter tattoos, belly painting for baby bumps, professional makeup for weddings and formals, and special effects and theatrical makeup. Speed is part of what they sell. The artists are trained for high-volume crowds and have worked events including the Sydney Royal Easter Show, the Melbourne Show, Carols in the Domain and Kidtopia, painting a face in about three minutes when a queue builds. At a smaller birthday party the pace comes down and the designs get more detailed. Every artist holds a Working With Children Check and carries public liability insurance, and the paints used are water-based, hypoallergenic and skin-safe brands, with rounded poly glitter rather than craft glitter near the eyes. Bookings cover private birthday parties, school fetes, fundraisers, playgroup and kindergarten visits, shopping centre and brand activations, staff parties, family fun days, Christmas events and masquerade balls. Your artist arrives 15 minutes before the start time to set up and needs a shaded space of roughly 1.5 to 2 metres plus somewhere nearby to park. Birthday parties and similar private parties start at $140 for up to 10 children or adults, then $10 per extra face, so 15 faces is $190, 20 faces is $240, 25 faces is $290, 30 faces is $340 and 35 faces is $390. Above 35 faces, contact them for alternate rates. If Richelle is booked and one of her trained artists attends instead, the rate is $140 per hour. Community and corporate events start at $130 per hour off peak between January and August, rising to around $145 per hour in the festive season from September to December; Halloween can attract $160 per hour or more for late night or last minute bookings. Glitter tattoos can be added for $40 and basic balloon twisting for $50. Travel costs may apply depending on distance, and parking is charged to the client. Makeup is priced separately, with special occasion makeup at $85, bridal makeup on the day at $160 and a two hour bridal trial at $140.

Performance Details

Your artist arrives 15 minutes before the start time to set up, and asks for a shaded area of roughly 1.5 to 2 metres for the chair, kit and a queue, plus a nearby parking spot. Their primary area is the Bankstown region of Sydney, but they travel anywhere in the city, and for a specified travel fee Richelle will go out to the Bathurst and Mudgee regions, including Lithgow and the Blue Mountains. Travel costs depend on distance.

How far ahead should I book?

At least one to two months before the event, and three to four months in high season. For Halloween and Christmas they prefer two to four months notice so they can be sure an artist is available, and peak periods attract higher rates.

Are the paints safe, and how do we get them off afterwards?

They use water-based, hypoallergenic, FDA approved brands formulated for sensitive skin with an SPF of 10. To remove, use warm water and a little soap on a damp dark cloth in a circular motion, then rinse. If a colour stains slightly, sorbolene, baby oil or eye makeup remover on a cotton pad will lift the residue.
