About Slide McBride
Slide McBride is both the name of the band and the man who leads it: a singer who also plays trombone, trumpet, ukulele and electric guitar. The band is built for private events, and the approach is to warm a room up gradually. A typical night might open with swing and crooner standards while guests arrive, move to lighter ukulele songs over dinner, then switch to electric guitar for extended dance sets of soul, funk, rock, pop and classic hip hop. The repertoire runs from 1920s jazz and bossa nova to the crowd favourites that get every generation singing. The standard band is a four-piece, with Slide on vocals and horns alongside guitar, bass and drums. It can grow to a five-piece by adding a female vocalist or a saxophone, or slim down to a trio (drums can be swapped for piano or guitar), a duo or Slide as a solo act with guitar, ukulele or trombone. There is also a roving three-piece that plays on the move for outdoor events, with no stage or electricity needed. Requests are welcome ahead of time or on the night, and guests who know a song can get up and sing with the band. You deal with Slide directly rather than through an agency, by phone, text or email. What band sizes can I book?
Slide McBride can perform solo, or as a two-piece, three-piece, four-piece or five-piece band. The full band is a four-piece with guitar, bass and drums, and a fifth member can be added as either a female singer or a saxophonist.
How is pricing worked out?
Pricing is calculated per player. On a Saturday night the minimum booking is four hours, and at other times it is three hours, with extra time charged per player per hour. Contact Slide directly for a quote for your date and line-up.
What styles of music does the band play?
The band covers jazz, swing, bossa nova and blues for quieter parts of the night, then rock, pop, soul, funk, Aussie classics and classic hip hop for dancing. Requests are welcome in advance or on the night.
Can the band play outdoors without power?
Yes. The roving band is a compact three-piece that plays while moving through the crowd, and it does not need a stage or electricity, which suits outdoor events and festivals.
Does Slide McBride travel outside Sydney?
Yes. The band performs across all of Sydney and has travelled for weddings and parties in the Southern Highlands, the Central Coast and regional NSW. Mention your location when you ask for a quote.
