About The Law Artisan Distillery
The Law Artisan Distillery is a 25 square metre shed off Duporth Avenue in Maroochydore, home to a single 120 litre pot still. Founder and distiller Joe Riba makes gin, vodka, amaro and liqueurs there, using botanicals from his own garden and from local growers. The cellar door is open Thursday to Saturday afternoons, with one-hour table sittings in the shed, the courtyard or at the bar. The Distillers Workshop runs every Saturday from 2pm to 4pm for a maximum of eight guests. It opens with a glass of the Lemon Myrtle Gin, then works through more than 20 botanicals, a blending exercise, a beer run through the experimental still and a lesson on heads, hearts and tails. There are ten tastings in all, including a young new make whisky, and bottles bought on the day come with a discount. For birthdays and work Christmas parties, the distillery can close to the public for a private night. Up to 20 guests share the bar in the shed and the open-air courtyard, with Joe mixing drinks from his own spirits, and the booking can fall on any date by arrangement. Send an enquiry to book.

Frequently asked questions
How much is the Distillers Workshop?
The workshop costs $110 a person. It runs for two hours on Saturday afternoons and includes a welcome gin, ten tastings across the range and a discount on any bottles you buy on the day.
How many people can join a workshop?
Each Saturday workshop takes eight guests at most, and four of those places are seats at the bar, so a small group of friends can fill the session between them.
Can we hire the distillery for a private party?
Yes. The shed and courtyard can be booked exclusively for up to 20 guests on any date by arrangement, including days the cellar door is usually closed. Birthdays and work Christmas parties are the usual bookings.
Is there a minimum spend for private hire?
Private hire carries a $1,200 minimum spend rather than a room fee. The whole amount goes towards cocktails, tastings and bottles to take home on the night.
What happens if it rains on a private booking?
Much of a private booking happens outside in the uncovered courtyard, with no indoor backup space, so the team helps you choose a date that suits the time of year.
