About Brothers in Groove
Brothers in Groove is a four-piece covers band from the Sunshine Coast built around funk rhythms, soul grooves and big rock choruses. John Benstead sits behind the drums, Dewa Heriawan plays bass, Harry Gusman handles guitar and Nick Reeve takes lead vocals. The set list moves between funk, soul, blues, reggae, pop, R&B and classic rock, with Australian rock thrown in for good measure. Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, INXS, AC/DC and Eric Clapton are among the influences the band names, and its demo recordings take in songs such as Uptown Funk, Could You Be Loved, Hard to Handle and Stand By Me. Quieter, easy-listening tracks suit a cocktail hour before the louder material starts. The band plays clubs, pubs, halls, hotels, private properties, festivals and public stages, and books birthday parties, Christmas parties, corporate functions, product launches and weddings. Sets can be a single hour, two one-hour sets or three 50-minute sets, with short breaks between them. Allow about an hour before the first song for setting up and a sound check, and about an hour afterwards to pack down. On the booking form you choose whether the venue supplies the sound system and an engineer, or the band provides the full production itself. Guest numbers help the band size its gear, from gatherings under 100 people to public events of 500 or more. If a member is ever unavailable, the band arranges a capable fill-in player so the booking goes ahead.
