About El Portón
El Portón is a Spanish restaurant and bar on Ashmore Road in Benowa. Its look comes from Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, with whitewashed walls, arched timber doors, terrazzo and pale timber tables. The restaurant takes function bookings for birthdays, celebrations, large groups and corporate events. The relaxed, coastal-style room suits a long shared lunch or a lively group dinner. Groups dine from one of two set menus served to share. The lighter menu brings tapas, croquettes and a choice of paella, and the larger one adds garlic prawns, chargrilled chicken and crumbed veal. Extras such as anchovies, seasonal vegetables or a seafood paella can be added to either menu. Much of the produce is imported from Spain. Drinks packages run for two or three hours, with sangria, cava and Spanish whites, rosé and reds. The wine list is mostly Spanish, and cocktails are also on offer. The restaurant is open from Tuesday to Sunday, with lunch and dinner on weekdays and service from late morning through to evening on weekends.
