About Dirty Hands Pottery Studio
Dirty Hands Pottery Studio is a working clay studio in Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast, with classes, courses and a community of regular makers. It also takes private events, where a group books a pottery session of its own. The studio names birthdays, team building sessions and hens parties as reasons to book, along with simple get-togethers. Groups choose hand building or wheel throwing on the enquiry form. Hand building suits anyone who wants to shape a mug, bowl, vase or platter at their own pace. On the wheel, a teacher covers the basics and each person makes two pieces in the standard class. No pottery experience is needed. The public classes run for 2.5 hours, and clay, tools and aprons are all supplied. The finished work stays behind to dry, and the team looks after firing and glazing in the studio's own kilns. They then get in touch when the pieces are ready to pick up, so guests have a keepsake to return for. The studio is air-conditioned, with free coffee, tea and water and free parking on site. Bring wine, beer or whatever you like to drink, and send an enquiry with your date, start time and group size.

Frequently asked questions
How old do guests need to be?
The pottery classes are designed for people aged 15 and over, and the studio says it does not run classes for children at this stage.
What is the difference between hand building and wheel throwing?
Hand building means shaping clay into pieces such as mugs, bowls or vases without a wheel. Wheel throwing teaches the basics on a pottery wheel, and each person makes two pieces.
How many people fit in a class?
Standard hand building classes cap at 12 people and wheel classes at 8. Include your group size in your enquiry so the studio can advise on a private event.
Can we bring drinks?
Yes. You are welcome to bring wine, beer or anything else you fancy, and water, coffee and tea are complimentary at the studio.
When do we get our pottery back?
Pieces dry on the studio shelves before the team fires and glazes them, and then you are contacted when they are ready to collect from Burleigh Heads.

Had a wonderful pottery painting experience at Dirty Hands. We got to choose from premade pieces and underglaze as many pieces as we'd like. The studio is spacious, parking is easy and we loved the relaxed atmosphere.
