Charlie Sparx is a Marrickville-based DJ and photo booth company that has been playing Sydney weddings, birthdays and corporate nights for more than ten years. The DJ side is the heart of it: the DJ plans the night with you beforehand, then reads the room on the night rather than working through a fixed playlist. They have covered school dances and sweet 16ths as well as sit-down wedding receptions, so the same DJ is used to a room of teenagers and to a mixed-age crowd where the music has to shift as the night goes on. Packages are put together around the event rather than sold off a shelf. You can book the DJ on their own, or add one of their photo booths, a mirror booth, a GIF booth, an Instagram printer, marquee and LED letters, a gobo projector that throws your names or monogram onto a wall, and bar staff. Booths come with a trained attendant and a box of props, and setting up and packing down is included in the booth price. Before the event the DJ works through the music with you: the songs that have to be played, the bridal waltz or first dance, and anything to leave out. They arrive with their own gear, including Pioneer CD players and mixers, JBL speakers and subwoofers, safe wireless microphones and an assortment of lighting effects, so a venue with no in-house sound is not a problem, and where a venue does have a system they can supplement it. Charlie Sparx travel to venues across Sydney and have worked repeatedly with a number of reception venues, so they usually know a room's power, load-in and timing quirks before they arrive.
