About Hitting Targets
Hitting Targets runs clay target shooting at the Sydney International Shooting Centre on Range Road in Cecil Park, the range built for the Sydney 2000 Olympics. It is led by director Suzy Balogh, who won gold at the Athens 2004 Olympics, and her team of coaches. Participants fire real 12-gauge double-barrel shotguns with live ammunition at 11cm clay targets launched at up to 110km/h. No firearms licence or experience is needed, and it suits anyone aged 12 and over at any fitness level. Private group bookings cover corporate team building, bucks and hens parties, birthdays and Christmas parties, from small groups up to 100 people. Sessions usually run about two hours, starting with a safety briefing and gun fitting, then coaching, a mini competition and a quick-draw duel, and finishing with photos and prizes. Corporate packages step up to three- and four-hour formats. Individuals and couples can join a public Try Shooting session instead: about 90 minutes, usually on a Sunday, with 10 to 16 people. The shotguns, ammunition, targets, hearing and eye protection, shooting jackets, range fees, insurance and temporary licensing are all supplied, and every shooter gets one-on-one coaching at the stand. Everyone signs a NSW Police P650 declaration on the day, adults bring photo ID, and under-18s need a parent or legal guardian with them. Sessions go ahead rain or shine, so wear enclosed shoes and sleeves and dress for the weather. The range is off Elizabeth Drive near the M7, roughly 50 minutes from the CBD. Spectators are welcome but must sign in.

How much does a private group session at Hitting Targets cost?
Private group bookings start from $1,750 per group for a one-hour weekend bucks session. Most two-hour bucks, hens and weekend corporate packages start from $2,000, which covers up to 10 shooters, with each extra person adding $175. Individuals can book a public Try Shooting session for $227 per person.
Do we need a firearms licence or any experience?
No. Under NSW law, unlicensed people aged 12 and over can shoot on an approved range under supervision. Each shooter completes a NSW Police P650 declaration on the day, and adults need government photo ID. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian with ID proving the relationship.
How big can our group be?
Hitting Targets takes everyone from individuals to groups of 100. Public Try Shooting sessions need at least 10 people to go ahead and take a maximum of 16. Private group pricing is set by headcount, so enquire with your numbers.
How long does a session last and what happens?
Private group sessions usually run about two hours, and very small groups can book one hour. You start with a safety briefing and gun fitting, then move on to coaching, a mini competition and a quick-draw duel, with photos and prizes at the end. Public sessions run about 90 minutes.
What should we wear, and what happens if it rains?
Wear enclosed shoes and comfortable clothes with sleeves, plus a hat and sunscreen. Thongs, heels, singlets and camouflage are not allowed. Fancy dress is fine for bucks and hens, but the range is a public, family venue. Sessions run in the rain, pause for hail or lightning, and may be postponed at 45 degrees or hotter.
