Piotrek Ziolkowski is a Perth photographer who has moved his focus to small, personal celebrations: surprise proposals, elopements and micro weddings. After a decade photographing traditional weddings, he now shoots days built around a couple and their closest people, whether that is just the two of them or a gathering of about 30 guests. His approach is candid and unscripted. Rather than lining people up, he looks for the moments that happen on their own – a reaction during the vows, a hug from family, the chaos of the dance floor. He is happy to arrive early to catch the preparations, and he talks couples through timing, light and what to wear when the weather turns. Elopements are offered as 1.5 or 2.5-hour collections, suited to a couple on their own or with up to 10 guests. Pre-wedding sessions run on 4-hour or 6-hour packages, and the longer one can be split across two days for two different settings. Proposal shoots are planned with the person asking, including a site check before the moment so the angle and light are right. For couples who like an analogue look, he offers 35mm film as an add-on, shot alongside the complete digital gallery.
