About Studio P
Studio P is a community pottery studio at 4/139 Buxton Street in Mount Hawthorn, run by potters Vaughan and Katie with a small team of teachers. It offers classes, workshops and open studio access for complete beginners through to experienced makers. The space has 22 wheels, three electric kilns, benches for clay preparation and hand building, a slab roller, an extruder and ten studio glazes. Teachers work closely with each person, whether that means learning to centre clay on the wheel, trimming a bowl or building a piece slowly by hand. Themed workshops, such as evenings that pair pottery with pét-nat, give friends a relaxed way to try clay together. Beyond its regular intro workshops and multi-week courses, the studio hosts private events, including bridal showers, birthday parties, family outings and Christmas functions. It pitches these as hands-on outings that suit guests of all ages, with every person getting time on the wheels or at the hand building benches. Pieces made on the day are fired and ready to collect from the studio a couple of weeks later, and fired work is held for up to two months. Details and pricing for private events are arranged with the studio directly.

Frequently asked questions
Can we book Studio P for a private event?
Yes. The studio hosts private bridal showers, birthday parties, family events and Christmas functions, and describes itself as suited to outings for all ages. Pricing is arranged with the studio for each event.
What should we wear to a pottery session?
Wear clothes that can get a bit of clay on them, although it washes out easily. For wheel throwing, keep nails short, and feel free to bring an apron and a towel.
When can we collect the pieces we make?
Pieces are bisque or glaze fired within about two weeks of the class and can then be collected from the studio. Fired work is kept for up to two months, and a box and towel help get multiple pieces home safely.
Where do we park when visiting the studio?
There is free, unrestricted street parking along Buxton Street, apart from the time-limited bays outside the Salvos store, plus a few first-come bays on site. Glendalough station is the nearest train station.
Can bookings be refunded or moved?
Workshop bookings are not refunded or rescheduled and missed classes are not replaced. If you cannot make it, you can pass your place on to someone else.
