Lawn Bowls: What to Look For

Barefoot bowls is a Broadbeach and Mermaid Beach pursuit here, with three community clubs to choose from. The difference between them is less about the game and more about what you eat and how big your group is.

Choosing among the three greens:

Surf Parade's Club Broadbeach is the scale option, with four floodlit championship greens.
Over in Broadbeach Waters, the drawcard at Gold Coast Bowls Club is food, with Brazilian BBQ from Flavours.
Club Mermaid at Mermaid Beach plays on natural grass, with a large function room to hire.
Club Broadbeach and Club Mermaid both start From $10 per person, with Gold Coast Bowls Club From $15 per person.
Hens and bucks groups are named at Gold Coast Bowls Club and Club Mermaid, whereas Club Broadbeach lists birthdays and work events.

Generous Brazilian plates to share set the tone in Broadbeach Waters at Gold Coast Bowls Club.
Surf Parade's Matador Bistro offers canapés as well as a carvery or BBQ, which need 20 people.
Club Mermaid has a small-group package with a sharing platter and two jugs for up to six people.
Bigger groups at Club Mermaid pick from the functions platter menu, and bar staff can set up a tab.

Weather, footwear and timing on the three greens

Rain is handled in Broadbeach Waters by moving you to another date.
Turn up ahead of your slot on Surf Parade, as the next group takes over the green afterwards.
Mermaid Beach's game suits any fitness level, and its rules can be picked up on the first end.
Club Mermaid is fully licensed and bookings are essential, so no alcohol can be brought in.
