About Vintage Illusion
Vintage Illusion is a costume hire and party styling business with a studio in Melville, set up for anyone planning a Gatsby, roaring twenties or Vintage Hollywood themed night. The racks hold more than 200 outfits for both men and women, from sequinned and tasselled flapper dresses to gangster suits with braces and hats, in sizes from a petite 6 up to 26. Visits are by appointment. Accessories are a big part of the collection. Hirers can add jewellery, ostrich feather boas, beaded headpieces, handmade feather headbands, pearls, vintage bags, shawls, jackets, hats and shoes, so a guest can rent a single piece or the complete look. The business also runs a vintage photo booth. The interactive option brings a photographer and a coordinator for three hours (extendable to four or five), with a choice of four backdrop scenes such as a gold sequin curtain or a brick-wall card table, plus a trunk of period props. High-resolution images follow within seven days, and the set and props stay behind so guests can keep snapping on their phones. A cheaper DIY version supplies the scene and props for hirers to collect and shoot themselves. For younger guests, Gatsby kits suit girls aged 8 to 12 and dress a group of up to 10 in dresses, feather boas, headbands and strings of pearls, with invitations, a props trunk and a backdrop. A vintage high tea set-up can be added, and retro Blue Hawaiian beach parties round out the themes on offer.
