Lawn Bowls: What to Look For

Southport's bowls clubs both welcome a group, but they start from different places. Club Musgrave leads with the game and a barbecue package, while Southport Bowls Club, founded in 1914, leads with its function rooms and adds bowls. Your plan for the non-bowling part of the day will likely decide it.

Side by side, the two clubs compare like this:

Cost of a game: Club Musgrave is from $10 per person, for two hours with everything supplied.
Room hire: Southport Bowls Club is from $200 room hire, with food and drinks arranged to suit.
Shade: two of Club Musgrave's three greens sit under shade cover.
Coaching: accredited coaches at Southport Bowls Club can guide small groups on technique.
Casual play: Southport Bowls Club runs barefoot bowls during trading hours for a simple afternoon.

The BBQ package brings a reserved patio for two hours, one hour of bowls and a standard drink card each.
A chef cooks chicken, steak and sausages, with salads.
Rink 22 sits by the green, seats about 25 and holds 30 to 40 standing, with a staffed stubby bar nearby.
Minimum numbers apply to packages, and groups start from 10, so confirm yours.
