Broadwater School Formal Venues, Compared

Choosing the Right School Formal Venue

Schools across the Broadwater area will find their formal venue on the corner of Olsen and Musgrave Avenues in Southport. Sharks Events Centre has enough rooms that the real comparison sits inside one site, from a divided ballroom to a theatre-style space. Committees can match the room to the cohort.

Match your year group to a room:

  • Under 50: a section of the Ashcroft Room, which breaks into three for 20 to 50 each.
  • Up to 220: the Ashcroft Room opened into a single space.
  • Around 240 seated: the Dempsey Room, where formals are a regular use.
  • Up to 250: the Riewoldt Room, with windows facing the reserve.
  • Above that: the President's Room, seating 650 and dividing into five areas.

Comparing rooms for the formal night feel

  • Dempsey brings the drama, with a 7.5m ceiling and a mezzanine.
  • The President's Room feels grander, as a ballroom with a built-in stage.
  • Riewoldt has an outlook over the reserve, which may help with daylight photos.
  • The Oval View Room is a brighter option for up to 300 standing, if your school prefers a stand-up format.

For the school's Broadwater planning list

  • Book a virtual tour first, then visit with the rooms you've shortlisted.
  • Ask whether the outdoor green can be used for formal photos, as it's listed for weddings.
  • Ask how the planning team runs a night with students and teachers.
  • Check that plated, tapas or buffet menus can handle your dietary list.
