Balloon Aloft Gold Coast has been flying since 1995 and runs its operation from Molendinar. Flights leave in the calm of early morning and stay up for about an hour. Depending on the weather, the route takes in the coastal skyline and waterways, the forested hinterland or sometimes both. The largest basket carries up to 24 passengers with the pilot, so a group can share the morning. Group bookings of four or more have their own change and cancellation terms. The team suggests two weeks' notice for a large group or a weekend flight. Standard packages include digital photos of the flight and return transfers between Southport and Broadbeach. Guests staying elsewhere can meet the bus at The Star in Broadbeach, and the crew brings everyone back afterwards. Commercially licensed pilots fly every balloon, using a wide choice of launch and landing sites around the region. Packages can also add the champagne buffet breakfast at The Star, which friends who are not flying can join. How many people can fly together?
The largest balloon carries up to 24 passengers plus the pilot. Bookings of four or more people are treated as group bookings, with their own change and cancellation terms.
How long does the balloon flight last?
Flights generally last an hour. They leave early in the morning, when the winds are calmest, so guests can watch the sun come up from the air.
Are there age or health limits?
Children under 3 cannot fly, and children aged 3 to 12 must fly with an adult. Aviation policy also rules out passengers who are more than 12 weeks pregnant.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Pilots watch the conditions closely and will not fly unless it is safe. If a flight is cancelled, you are offered another date, and refundable tickets can be refunded less a $20 fee a person.
What should we wear for the flight?
Bring a jumper or jacket you can remove, since mornings can be cool. Closed shoes are recommended, and scarves are not allowed on board.
