About The Refinery
The Refinery is a converted panel beater's workshop on Austin Street in Newstead, run by its husband-and-wife owners as a venue for weddings and corporate events. Only one event is booked each day, so the whole property is given over to your group. The indoor warehouse covers about 150 square metres, with polished concrete floors, black VJ panelling, concrete walls, big windows and an 11-metre New York marble bar. It opens onto a private garden of a similar size, used for ceremonies, arrival drinks and canapés. Seated events take 40 to 100 guests at long tables, while cocktail-style events suit 80 to 150 across the warehouse and garden. Furniture, crockery and glassware, tealights and printed menus and signage come with the hire, along with a sound system, a wireless microphone and a projector with a screen. All food and drink is handled by the venue's own kitchen and bar team. Outside catering isn't allowed apart from cakes, guest favours and gelato carts, and BYO alcohol isn't usually offered, though corkage can be discussed for something special. Wedding packages pair a garden ceremony with a reception, and corporate packages cover company dinners, cocktail galas, product launches and end-of-year celebrations. Events end by 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays and by 10pm from Sunday to Thursday, so send an enquiry for a tailored proposal.

How many guests can The Refinery hold?
Seated events suit 40 to 100 guests and cocktail-style events suit 80 to 150. Those are also the minimums the venue recommends for each format.
Can we bring our own caterer or drinks?
No, all food and drink comes from the in-house team. The exceptions are cakes, take-home favours and gelato carts, and corkage can be discussed if you'd like to bring a special bottle.
What time do events finish?
Friday and Saturday events wrap up by 11pm and Sunday to Thursday events by 10pm. At the agreed time the bar closes, the music stops and guests have 30 minutes to head off.
What AV equipment is included?
The warehouse has a premium sound system and the garden has its own column speaker. A wireless microphone and a projector with a retractable screen are also included.
Can we book a reception without a ceremony?
Yes. Reception packages, seated or cocktail, include five hours of venue hire. Ceremonies are only offered together with a reception, as the venue hosts a single event each day.
