About Loyal Hope

Loyal Hope is a heritage-listed timber hall on Morgan Street in Fortitude Valley, a short walk from James Street. It was built as a lodge for a friendly society and has been restored as a private event space, with every booking given exclusive use. Inside, white VJ walls, polished hardwood floors and four-metre ceilings are lit by tall timber sash windows. A feature bar runs along one side, and outside there is a raised garden courtyard looking onto a park, a large Moreton Bay fig and the sandstone front of St Patrick's Church. The hall seats 50 for a formal dinner, 80 theatre style or 100 for a cocktail party. Designer furniture, dining tables, bentwood chairs, styling pieces, a sound system, microphones and a projector are all on site and included in the hire, along with a foosball table and arcade games. Cocktail parties and dinners, including birthdays and engagements, usually run for four and a half hours, either from midday or from 6.30pm, with an hour beforehand to set up. Wedding receptions start at 5.30pm, with a ceremony in the hall from 4.30pm if you want one, and every event wraps up by 11pm. Food and drinks both come through the venue, which is licensed and pours beer on tap, wine and signature cocktails. Cost is made up of a hire charge and a minimum spend on food and drink, quoted for your date and guest numbers, so send an enquiry for a quote. There is no parking on site, but a paid car park sits about 50 metres away and the Valley is well served by public transport.

Frequently asked questions

How many guests does Loyal Hope hold?

The hall takes 100 guests cocktail style, 80 seated theatre style for a ceremony or presentation, and 50 at a formal dinner.

How much does it cost to hire?

Each event is quoted as a hire charge together with a minimum spend on food and drink, and that covers service staff and an onsite manager. Send an enquiry with your date, timings and guest numbers to get a quote.

Can we bring our own drinks?

No. Loyal Hope is a licensed venue, so drinks come through its bar, either as a pre-paid package or on consumption. Food is also arranged through the venue.

What time do events finish?

Every event has to finish by 11pm because neighbours are close by. A cocktail party for a birthday or engagement normally runs four and a half hours with an hour of set-up beforehand, and longer bookings can be discussed.

Is the venue wheelchair accessible?

There is a compliant ramp at the Morgan Street entrance and an accessible bathroom. The bathroom door is 73cm wide, though, because it sits in an original part of the heritage building.
