About Norman Park Sports & Community Club

Norman Park Sports & Community Club is a bowls club on Norman Avenue in Norman Park, on Brisbane's eastern side. It has two bowling greens lit for night play, outdoor barbecue tables under shade sails, a bistro and a private Function Room, with off-street parking on site. The Function Room is a plain, flexible room that you can style your own way. Bi-fold glass doors run from floor to ceiling along one side, so guests look straight out over the greens and gardens. Hire is $400 for five hours, and the time can be stretched if you ask. The room comes with its own restrooms, wi-fi, a Bluetooth speaker, a drop-down screen with laptop connection for a projector, and a microphone and lectern on request. Food is ordered ahead from the club's function menu, with a $500 minimum on catering. Options include chef-cooked barbecue buffets with salads, a build-your-own burger or slider bar, and hot and cold platters for 10 to 15 people each. There are no set drinks packages. Instead you open a bar tab for a fixed amount, choose what it covers, and guests wear wristbands to draw on it. Many groups add a two-hour game of barefoot bowls, with an instructor to explain the rules. One celebration cake may be brought in with no cakeage charge, and the room can be decorated with balloons, flowers and fairy lights.

Pricing

The Function Room costs $400 for five hours, and the hire can be extended on request. A minimum catering spend of $500 applies.

Barbecue buffets are $40 per person (Classic Flame) or $65 per person (Signature Flame). The burger bar is $27.50 per person and the slider bar $29.50 per person, plus $5 for vegan or gluten-free. Platters cost $80 to $175 each.

Food

Function food is pre-ordered so the group can eat together. The barbecue buffets include grilled rib fillet, sausages, wedges, salads and bread rolls, with the Signature Flame adding pork belly, satay chicken, corn ribs and grilled vegetables.

The burger and slider bars let guests build their own with wagyu patties or pulled meats, salads and cheeses. Platters cover party pies, chicken, seafood, vegetable bites, dips, sandwiches, fruit and a ploughman's board, and vegan and gluten-free options are available.

Beverages

Drinks run on a bar tab: you set the dollar amount and what it covers, and guests wear wristbands to use it. No outside food or drink is allowed apart from one celebration cake.

Availability

The Function Room is hired in five-hour blocks, and the bar closes at 10.15pm. A deposit confirms bookings with food for more than 10 people; send an enquiry to book.

Frequently asked questions

How much does the Function Room cost to hire?

Room hire is $400 for five hours, and longer bookings can be arranged on request. A minimum catering spend of $500 also applies.

What food can we order for a function?

There are two barbecue buffets at $40 and $65 per person, a burger bar at $27.50 per person and a slider bar at $29.50 per person, each for at least 20 guests. Hot and cold platters run from $80 to $175 and serve 10 to 15 people.

Is there a drinks package?

No. Instead you set up a bar tab for an amount you choose and decide what it includes, and guests are given wristbands. The tab is settled at the end of the function.

Yes. Bowls sessions run for two hours, an instructor helps form teams and explains scoring, and up to 10 people can play on each rink. Children under 12 are not allowed on the greens.

Can we bring a cake and decorations, and how late can we stay?

One celebration cake is welcome with no cakeage, and balloons, flowers and electric candles are fine, though not glitter or anything stuck to the walls. Music stops at 10.30pm and guests leave by 11.15pm. The club does not take bookings for 18th birthdays.
