About West Toowong Bowls Club
West Toowong Bowls Club is a community bowls club on Bywong Street in Toowong, below Mount Coot-tha. Its renovated colonial clubhouse looks over a competition green, with two decks and a sunny beer garden along the edge. Barefoot bowls costs $10 each for two hours, and the club supplies the bowls. No experience is needed, and a member can show the group the basics if you ask. Shoes and glassware stay off the green, and players must be 13 or older. For a party or work function, the club can set aside a verandah, the beer garden or an indoor space for your group. It stays open to members and locals at the same time, so it is a shared, sociable setting rather than an exclusive hire. The Bistro on Bywong kitchen handles function catering, with finger food such as Korean pork dumplings and buttermilk fried chicken wings. Bar tab packages can be arranged, and you are welcome to bring a celebration cake. The club regularly hosts birthdays, reunions, anniversaries, luncheons and corporate functions, and end-of-year work gatherings are a common booking. Send an enquiry with your date, numbers and how many people want to bowl.

Frequently asked questions
How much does barefoot bowls cost?
It is $10 per person for two hours on the green. Bowls are provided, and coaching is available for anyone who would like a hand with the basics.
Can children join in on the green?
Players need to be 13 or older, as the bowls are heavy and take some coordination. Because it is a competition green, children are asked not to run or play on it at any time.
Can we bring our own food or drinks?
No, food and drinks come from the club's bar and bistro. The one exception is a celebration cake, which you are welcome to bring along with disposable plates.
Can we book the whole clubhouse for a private party?
The club stays open to members and the public during trading hours, so whole-venue hire is not offered. Verandahs, the beer garden or an indoor area can be reserved for your group instead.
Are 18th and 21st birthday parties allowed?
Yes, but the host must hire at least one qualified security guard at their own cost. Security for other functions depends on the size and type of group, at management's discretion.
