About Merthyr Bowls Club
Merthyr Bowls Club runs barefoot bowls on the banks of the Brisbane River in New Farm. A game costs $10 a head for up to two hours on the green, and that covers the bowls, a little coaching and help splitting the group into teams. No experience is needed, though players must be 12 or older. The club has seven lanes, each taking up to 12 bowlers, and games start at 11am, 1pm, 3pm or 5pm from Wednesday to Sunday. Groups often pair the bowls with a BBQ package, which includes the game in its price, and the bistro serves lunch and dinner with river views. For birthdays, team building, staff farewells, end-of-year drinks and Christmas parties, the club can shape a package around the group. Two covered spaces sit beside the greens. The front deck holds up to 50 guests with its own access to the bar and pull-down blinds, while the back marquee takes up to 75 and is closest to the greens. The club does not host children's parties or christenings, and 21st birthdays need licensed security booked at the organiser's cost. For meetings with AV, the club works with Events On Oxlade next door, so send an enquiry with your date and numbers.

Frequently asked questions
How much does barefoot bowls cost?
It is $10 per person for a game of up to two hours. The price includes the bowls, some barefoot bowls coaching and help organising the teams, and BBQ packages include the bowls in the package price.
How big a group can play?
There are seven lanes and each lane takes up to 12 players, so a large group can spread across several lanes at once. Groups of more than 12 are arranged with the team directly, so send an enquiry with your numbers.
Is there a minimum age?
Children under 12 are not allowed to play or go onto the bowling greens. The club also does not host children's birthday parties or christenings because of limited space and safety requirements.
What are the game times?
Games run in two-hour slots starting at 11am, 1pm, 3pm and 5pm, from Wednesday to Sunday, with Monday and Tuesday play added through December. Most groups find an hour of play is plenty, and you can finish early.
Can we hold a 21st birthday here?
Yes, but a 21st needs licensed security paid for by the organiser, booked for at least four hours. Security is $65 an hour Monday to Friday, $75 an hour on Saturdays and $85 an hour on Sundays.
