About The Smoking Camel
The Smoking Camel is a late-night bar and restaurant on Lawson Street in Byron Bay. Its kitchen takes cues from Lebanon, Turkey and the wider Levant, giving the dishes a modern spin. Inside, the room is a riot of colour: neon signs, red pillars, chequered floors and patterned walls. Blue upholstered booths line the dining room, a curved bar sits under a gold arch hung with glassware, and a disco ball throws light across a darker back corner. The booths each hold up to eight people, which suits a birthday dinner or a catch-up with friends. Larger groups are seated across the room, and the team takes enquiries for group dining and functions. Any booking of eight or more dines on the Sultan's Feast, a set banquet at $69 per person. It brings house pickles, hummus with grilled pita, smashed falafel, chicken skewers, wagyu rump steak, fries and a village salad to share. The bar pours a list of Middle Eastern inspired cocktails, among them a Turkish Delight gin sour and a saffron vodka sour, alongside local and imported beer and wine. Most dietary needs can be handled when the kitchen is told ahead. The venue opens from 4pm, Wednesday to Sunday. Send an enquiry to book a group table.
