About Cape Byron Distillery
Cape Byron Distillery makes Brookie's Gin and Cape Byron whisky on St Helena Road in McLeods Shoot, in the Byron hinterland. The distillery sits on a macadamia farm where the owners have regenerated the rainforest, and many of the botanicals used in the gin grow on the property. The venue takes private bookings on any day, for a whole day or just part of one. It seats 80 people and holds 150 in total, and the team can run rotating formats so larger groups move between experiences. The rainforest balcony is the centre of most functions. Cocktails on the Balcony suits 10 to 50 guests over one and a half to two hours, with mocktails and other alcohol-free drinks alongside the spirits. Groups can add a guided rainforest walk with a gin and tonic and a tasting of four Brookie's spirits, or a whisky tour through the barrel room with a tasting of three whiskies. Short guided tastings, a cocktail masterclass, fill-your-own whisky bottles and corporate gifts are also on offer. For food, guests can make up their own grazing boards with regional cheese, cured meats, olives and dips, and the team helps arrange on-site catering for private functions to suit different budgets. Drinks can be pre-paid by the round, run on a group tab or ordered individually. The bar focuses on the distillery's own spirits, so wine and beer are not served. Transport is not provided, so groups should plan a rideshare, taxi or charter bus.

Frequently asked questions
How many guests can Cape Byron Distillery hold for a private event?
The distillery seats 80 people and has a total capacity of 150. Balcony cocktail functions suit groups of 10 to 50, and tours run for 15 to 30 guests at a time.
When can the distillery be hired privately?
The distillery takes private bookings on any day, for a whole day or just part of one. The cellar door is open to the public from Thursday to Sunday, so midweek hire avoids public visitors.
What food is available at a distillery function?
Guests can build their own grazing boards, picking from regional cured meats, salumi, cheese, olives and dips. For private functions, the team helps organise on-site catering to match the group's budget.
How do drinks work for groups?
You can pre-pay rounds of cocktails, run a group drinks tab or let guests order individually. The menu centres on the distillery's own gin, whisky and liqueurs with alcohol-free options, and a drinks list can be sent ahead of the event. Wine and beer are not served.
Can we add a tour or tasting to our event?
Yes. Options include a one-hour rainforest and gin tour, a 45-minute whisky tour with a tasting from the cask, a short guided tasting of gin or whisky, a cocktail masterclass and fill-your-own whisky bottles.

We did the Whiskey Tasting Tour and really enjoyed it. It was a very interesting and informative tour about brewing whiskey and what to know about tasting and comparing them. I can highly recommend it!
