About Byron Bay Surf Life Saving Club
Byron Bay Surf Life Saving Club sits on Main Beach at the end of Bay Street. Besides running patrols and its nippers program, the club hires out its ground-floor function room and deck for weddings and private functions. The deck faces the water, with views across the bay to the Cape Byron lighthouse, Julian Rocks and Mount Warning. It can be opened up to the rustic hall inside, so a ceremony, sunset drinks and a seated reception can all happen in the one place. The room seats up to 150 guests. Hire covers the hall, deck, bathrooms and a commercial kitchen with a walk-in cool room, plus white wedding chairs and a mix of round and rectangular tables supplied without linen. Every function is run by one of the club's approved caterers and coordinators, who look after access, set-up, food, supervision, pack-down and lock-up. Hirers supply their own drinks for the bar staff to pour, and live music is allowed within the club's rules. Music and alcohol service stop at 11pm and guests leave by 11.30pm. Linen, glassware, styling, audio gear, heaters, cocktail furniture and marquees are organised separately through your own suppliers. Upstairs, a smaller conference room takes up to 30 people for workshops, training days and meetings, with tables, an AV system, a kitchenette and a whiteboard. Send an enquiry to check dates for either room.

Frequently asked questions
How many guests does the surf club function room hold?
The function room and deck take up to 150 guests seated. The separate upstairs conference room suits groups of up to 30.
What does it cost to hire the function room?
The club's hire pack sets a venue fee of $6,000 for the hall, kitchen, deck and toilets, plus a $1,000 bond that comes back once the hall is left as it was found. Check the current fee when you enquire.
Can we bring our own drinks?
Yes. You supply the drinks and the bar staff serve them. A function liquor licence is only needed if alcohol will be sold to guests, and it must be arranged six weeks before the event.
Do we have to use a particular caterer?
Yes. The club requires one of its approved caterers or coordinators, who manages the whole function, including access, set-up, catering, supervision, pack-down, cleaning and lock-up. Celebrants, DJs and other suppliers work through them.
What time does a function have to finish?
Access starts at 8am on the day of the booking, with no access the day before. Music and the service of alcohol must end by 11pm and everyone must leave the premises by 11.30pm.
