Swap the easel for clay at Soul Clay Studios, a purpose-built pottery studio at 51 Rowlins Road, Gerringong. Owned and run by Zeynep and Marcus Testoni, it is home to more than 15 resident ceramic artists, and groups can book it privately for hens parties, birthdays and work get-togethers.

The sip comes from the Friday Night Clay Date, a two-hour BYO wine evening with light refreshments supplied, and the paint comes from a shorter session spent decorating a ready-made pottery piece.

What a Gerringong clay night looks like:

Bring your own: wine is BYO on the Friday Night Clay Date, with nibbles from the studio.
No experience needed: sessions are designed for absolute beginners who have never handled clay.
Paint a finished piece: the shorter option has guests painting a pot that is already made rather than shaping one.
Morning alternative: Saturday Soul Sessions follow the same two-hour format at 9.30am or midday.
