Choosing the Right Birthday Party Venue

Milestone birthdays are a regular booking at Sylvania Bowling Club, which has been on Holt Road since 1955, when its founders turned an old chicken farm into bowling greens. The clubhouse balcony looks over those greens, and the function rooms come in two sizes.

For a 40th or 60th with speeches, the Sylvania Room has its own PA; for a smaller family gathering, the Holt Room is the cosier choice.

Birthday options at the club:

Up to 100 seated: the Sylvania Room, private with its own bar and dance floor
Thirty at the table, or closer to 50 standing: the Holt Room
An afternoon outdoors: The Lawn's ten tables, all of them or just a few
Speeches and a playlist: the Sylvania Room's PA with CD and DVD playback
Finger food on a budget: canapé packages from $18 per person

Mini cakes and fruit platters can be added, and groups of 20 or more can have a charcuterie table.

Classic choices include gourmet mini pies, mini quiches, cheeseburger spring rolls, arancini and mac and cheese croquettes
Premium options include Angus beef sliders, lamb skewers and chicken satay skewers
Bigger packages add more classic and premium choices
The events and functions coordinator helps shape the menu
