How Dance Classes Actually Work

Salsa, bachata and cha cha cha are taught in Rosehill by Urban Salsa, a Latin dance school based at the bowling club on the corner of James Ruse Drive and Hassall Street. Instructor Raymund has spent more than two decades teaching and performing, and his lessons put the basics first so beginners can join a social dance floor quickly.

A private lesson for a hens do, birthday or small team:

Groups of three to ten book an hour with an instructor
Pick the style: salsa On1 or On2, Cuban salsa, bachata or cha cha cha
The lesson is paced to the group's experience
Hold it at home if there's room to dance, or in a hired studio
From $299 per group, paid in advance

Travel costs may be added for a lesson at home, and a hired studio's charge goes on top of the fee. Changing the time needs 24 hours' notice.

Public classes run on Sunday evenings in the club's function room, on a large timber dance floor
Terms last five weeks and follow the NSW school terms
Salsa On1 is taught across three levels, with workshops in other styles
A trial class lets newcomers test it first, and no partner is needed

Before and after the dancing

Social dance nights at the club open with a short workshop
The club has onsite parking and sits close to bus and light rail stops
Food and drinks are served before and after class
Raymund's repertoire also takes in merengue
