An art school that has been teaching in Parramatta since 1994 clears the room for private painting parties. Mahan Art School on Sorrell Street, led by artist and teacher Elham Ahmadi, gives a group the studio to itself for two and a half hours, and every guest gets the supplies they need to finish a painting.

No painting background is needed, so it works for a mixed group of friends as well as for anyone who hasn't held a brush since school.

The kinds of groups it suits:

A baby shower: a relaxed afternoon of painting, with decorations chosen for the occasion.
A small celebration: a birthday or catch-up where the painting is the entertainment.
A team-building session: colleagues working side by side on their own paintings.
A night out with friends: an evening in the studio instead of around a restaurant table.
Groups of 10 and up: bookings start at ten people.

Parties are priced from $75 per person, and art supplies, decorations, a party playlist and a photographer are included.
