Everything to Know About Paint & Sip

Hand-building with clay, rather than a canvas and easel, sets Lake House Clay and Art Studio apart. Kelly White, a trained high school art teacher who studied ceramics at university, runs the small, light-filled studio at 75 Skye Point Road, Coal Point, which looks out over Lake Macquarie.

Private workshops on offer at the studio:

  • Clay 'n Sip: Friday nights and weekends, each guest making their own pieces by hand
  • Kokedama: every guest makes two moss-ball plants
  • Dried flower wreaths and macrame: slower, crafty sessions for a relaxed catch-up
  • Mosaics: up to 16 people on Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays
  • Kids' parties: with parents welcome to join in

Every private workshop is arranged by phone, so the format, numbers and timing are settled before the day.

Matching a workshop to the occasion

  • Hens nights: a Clay 'n Sip on a Friday night or weekend gives the bridal party something hands-on to do together
  • Birthdays: a relaxed creative catch-up instead of a dinner booking
  • Work groups and family gatherings: booked the same way as a celebration, by phone
  • Children: private kids' parties and school holiday workshops

Small things worth knowing

  • Group size: the studio is small, with mosaic sessions capped at 16
  • Child safety: the studio has its own child safety policy and each person on staff has a working with children check
  • During term: weekly hand-building classes in coil, slab and mould techniques run between the private bookings
  • Gifts: gift cards are available
