Choosing a Tasting Experience

Somerville's distillery experience is about whisky rather than wine or gin. Chief's Son Distillery is a family-owned maker of Australian single malt, produced in small batches from malted barley on a fully manual system.

Its guided tour suits a birthday group or a corporate outing of two to twelve guests, and it's for adults only.

On the tour your group will:

Meet the head distiller – who leads the tour and pitches the tastings to how much your group already knows.
Follow malt to maturation – through the still house and into the barrel warehouse.
Taste four single malts – poured along the way.
Fill a bottle from the cask – every guest draws 100ml of whisky to take home.
See the casks – ex-tawny, Apera, red wine and bourbon barrels hold the maturing spirit.

The tour is priced from $75 per person, and a cheeseboard version costs a little more. Send an enquiry to check a date.

Set sessions: 11am on selected Fridays and Saturdays.
