How Dance Classes Actually Work

On the second level at 2/252 Church St, Pole Divas Richmond turns its weekday teaching studio into a private party room for groups who would rather have a go than watch. The same space runs pole, lyra hoop, aerial silks, dance and stretch classes for women through the week, so the rigging and the instructors are already in place when your group arrives.

What sets this Church Street studio apart is choice of apparatus. A party can stay with the classic pole and lap dance theme, or move up into fabric on the silks or onto the lyra hoop instead – handy when the guest of honour fancies hanging upside down more than spinning.

How a Richmond studio party is put together:

  • Length: 90 minutes, led start to finish by one of the studio's instructors
  • Apparatus: the whole group works on the pole, the hanging fabric or the hoop
  • On arrival: alcohol-free sparkling, and Richmond can also pour alcoholic bubbles
  • Group: ten guests or more, every one of them aged 18 or over
  • Price: From $40 per person

Nobody needs any experience – the instructor pitches the warm-up and tricks to whoever turns up. Men can't join the regular women-only classes, but they are welcome at a private function here.

Inside the 90 minutes on Church Street

  • Drinks first: the group settles in with sparkling as everyone arrives upstairs
  • Warm-up: the instructor loosens everyone up before anyone leaves the floor
  • Tricks: a handful of moves that look much harder than they are, on whichever apparatus you chose
  • Finale: a short routine the whole group learns together to close out the session

Who books a Richmond aerial party

  • A bride-to-be whose bridal party wants something more active than a long lunch
  • A milestone birthday where the guest of honour would rather try silks than sit through speeches
  • Friend groups of ten or more who have always been curious about pole or lyra
  • Mixed groups, since men can come along to a private function even though weekly classes are for women

Dance Classes, Explained

Can our Richmond party be on silks rather than pole?

Yes. The Richmond room has rigging overhead, which means your group can swap the usual pole theme for fabric silks or a lyra. The 90-minute shape stays the same whichever you choose.

Is alcohol served at the Church Street studio?

Alcohol-free sparkling is offered as guests arrive, and the Richmond studio is able to serve alcoholic bubbles on arrival as well.

How many guests do we need, and is there an age limit?

Parties are for ten guests or more, and everyone must be 18 or older. Pricing starts From $40 per person.

What if we need to cancel?

Functions need four weeks' notice to cancel, so lock in numbers early. Send an enquiry to Pole Divas Richmond to book a date.
