Choosing the Right Wedding Reception Venue

Couples looking for a heritage reception on Chapel Street can book Sophia, upstairs in the Prahran Arcade.

Its Gallery and Ballroom can run as one wedding venue, with drinks in one room and dinner in the other.

Shaping the wedding at Sophia:

  • Dinner for up to 208: the Gallery, under 26 arched windows.
  • A smaller reception: the Ballroom seats 100 beneath ornate chandeliers.
  • Both rooms together: 250 at tables or 500 for a cocktail reception.
  • Table layouts: long banquets, round tables or lounge furniture.
  • Prices: quoted by the events team on enquiry.

Weddings are one of the event types the venue has hosted since its restoration.

Styling a heritage reception

  • White walls and timber floors give a neutral base for flowers and lighting.
  • The Ballroom's balcony over Chapel Street suits photos.
  • The Gallery is long enough to seat the whole wedding at one continuous banquet.
  • Arcade roof detailing through the windows adds character without extra styling.

Questions for the events team

  • Which room suits drinks and which suits dinner on your numbers.
  • How menus are planned and which caterers are used.
  • Whether a ceremony can be held in one room before the reception.
  • What access suits older guests, given the upper-floor location.
