How Escape Rooms Actually Work

Behind a red door on the first floor of 38–40 Eaton Mall, EscapeXperience runs three themed escape rooms, each a 60-minute race through puzzles, riddles and locks. Prices start from $40 per person.

How the three rooms compare:

Amnesia: a locked room in 1947 and no memory of arriving – the gentlest start for first-timers.
Burlesque: an undercover case behind a 1920s show, and the room that takes teams of up to eight.
Clockworks: built around a mysterious invention, and the hardest of the three.
Team sizes: Amnesia and Clockworks suit two to six players.
Hints: the game master feeds clues when a puzzle has the team stuck.

Bigger groups can book more than one room at once, and parties of 15 or more can hire the facility with catering for a birthday or work function.

Arrive about 15 minutes early for the introduction.
Allow a little longer than the hour, since a debrief follows each game.
Phones and cameras stay outside the rooms.
Photos can be taken once the team escapes.
