Elsternwick's village strip on Glen Huntly Rd has a gallery whose walls are hung with large oil paintings, many inspired by Judaica – and where guests paint their own. Sossy and Canvas, at number 475, is abstract painter Sossy Kinderman's studio, and she hosts private paint parties there.
Five guests is the minimum, and 35 fills the gallery. How a party at number 475 runs:
Every guest leaves with a finished canvas, unless the group opts to share one large artwork.
Sossy Kinderman, the abstract painter whose gallery it is. She demonstrates each step and then helps each guest at their canvas.
Three styles: an abstract acrylic piece, a textured artwork in sculpting medium and metallic paint, or a graffiti canvas finished with spray paint outdoors under cover.
Yes, for adult parties of guests 18 and over – bring wine or champagne, and flutes and wine glasses are provided.
The venue is yours for three hours, with 60 to 80 minutes of that spent on guided painting.
