BY.ARTISANS is an independent distillery and cocktail bar on Jane Street in West End. The spirits poured at the bar are made on site, and the stills sit right behind the counter where the classes run. The Gin Blending Masterclass lasts about 90 minutes. It opens with a welcome drink and a walk around the distillery, then a guided tasting of individual botanicals so everyone learns what each one adds to a gin. From there, each guest builds a recipe from pre-distilled botanical tinctures, adjusting and tasting until the balance feels right. The finished gin goes into a 200ml bottle with a label each person designs, and it comes home with them. Public sessions are kept small, and groups can book a private session with the space and the team to themselves. The distillery hosts hens and bucks groups, birthdays, engagements, farewells, team-building days and client events, and can shape the session around the group. To turn the class into a full night, add a drinks package and a grazing table, or stay on for a private event. The venue fits up to 50 guests. Everyone must be 18 or over, and you can send an enquiry with your date, group size and occasion to plan a private class.

For a longer event, drinks packages are $70 per person for up to two hours or $100 per person for up to three hours. A grazing table is $30 per person. Those packages apply to groups of 30 or more, and Sundays add 10%.

What happens during the gin blending masterclass?
The 90-minute class starts with a welcome drink and a tour of the distillery, moves on to a guided tasting of botanicals, and then each guest blends a gin from botanical tinctures. Everyone designs a label and takes home a 200ml bottle.
How much does the class cost?
Public masterclass sessions are $100 per person. Private group sessions can be tailored to the occasion, so send an enquiry naming the occasion, a likely date and how many are coming to get a quote.
Is there a minimum age?
Yes. Everyone joining a masterclass, visiting the bar or buying alcohol must be 18 or over, and the team may ask to see ID on arrival, so make sure every guest in the group brings some.
Can we add drinks and food for our group?
Yes. Drinks packages covering cocktails, spirits, beer, wine and non-alcoholic options run for two or three hours, and a grazing table of cheese, charcuterie, crackers and dips can be added. Venue hire packages apply to groups of 30 or more, and Sunday events attract a 10% surcharge.
What if someone in our booking arrives late or can't come?
Classes run as group sessions, so arriving more than 15 minutes late means the booking is moved to another date. Bookings are non-refundable, but with 48 hours' notice you can change dates, and with less notice someone else can take the place.
