About Activate Sports
Activate Sports is a Brisbane children's sports business run by Marc Wheeler, a Physical Education teacher who built his programs around keeping kids active and having fun rather than competing under pressure. Its birthday parties centre on archery tag, a fast team game that mixes the feel of dodgeball with archery, using low-power bows and arrows with large foam tips. The party comes to you: the host turns up roughly three-quarters of an hour before start time to build an arena of inflatable bunkers and target boards, then spends the first part of the party teaching every child how to hold and shoot the bow. After that come several game modes, with face masks and arm guards worn by every player the whole time. Players need to be at least 7 years old, and up to 20 bows are in play at once – bigger groups simply rotate in and out. Parents can choose a backyard of roughly 8 by 15 metres, a local park or sports field (the team books it for you), or an indoor sports hall so the party goes ahead in any weather. Indoor venues carry an extra hire charge, and Activate Sports also has its own indoor base at North Lakes. Parties can be tailored to the birthday child, with 30-minute add-ons such as dodgeball, tag games, soccer or another sport on request. Coaches hold Blue Cards, and every package covers the coordinator, equipment and safety gear. Send an enquiry to book.

Frequently asked questions
How old do children need to be to play archery tag with Activate Sports?
Players need to be 7 or older. No experience is needed, because the event host teaches the group how to use the bows before any games begin.
Is archery tag safe for a kids' party?
The bows are designed to limit arrow power and each arrow has a large foam tip. Children feel a tag but it should not hurt or bruise, and everyone wears a face mask and arm guards throughout.
Where can the party be held?
In a backyard of at least 8 x 15 metres, at a local park or sports field that Activate Sports books for you, or at an indoor sports hall, which adds a hire charge of about $100 to $200.
How many children can play at once?
Bookings need at least 12 players. Up to 20 bows are used at a time, so with a larger group the host rotates children in and out so everyone gets plenty of turns.
Can other activities be added to the party?
Yes. Dodgeball, tag games, soccer or another sport you request can be added in 30-minute blocks, which helps keep younger guests busy between archery rounds.
