About Sunset Safaris
Sunset Safaris is a family-founded tour operator that has been taking guests to Moreton Island since the early 2000s. Its main outing is the Get Wrecked 1-Day Tour, a fully guided island day that leaves Brisbane in the morning and returns in the evening. The group crosses Moreton Bay on the MiCat ferry, then heads to the Tangalooma Wrecks for a guided snorkel among the sunken hulls. Next come the see-through kayaks, where the guides scatter food so the reef fish gather under the boats. The 4WD part of the day runs in the operator's own off-road buses, which follow rough sand tracks inland to The Desert. There guests ride sand toboggans down a tall natural dune, and the tour notes speeds of up to 70 km/h on the way down. Between activities there is time to swim at Tangalooma Beach and eat a picnic lunch on the sand. Snorkels, wetsuits, safety vests, kayaks, coach transfers and lunch are all covered, and tide or weather can change the running order. For work groups and friends, the operator also offers Christmas and end-of-year party outings on Moreton Island. These are shaped around the group and can include snorkelling, kayaking and a barbecue on the beach, so send an enquiry with your numbers and preferred date.

Frequently asked questions
Where does the Moreton Island tour start?
Coaches collect guests at the Brisbane Coach Terminal on Parkland Crescent in Brisbane City at about 7am, or you can join at the MiCat ferry terminal at the Port of Brisbane at about 7.30am. Return to the city is usually around 5.30pm, depending on the ferry timetable.
How much does the day tour cost?
Adult prices are $189 plus $85 in national park and ferry fees ($274) when joining at the Port of Brisbane, or $199 plus $85 ($284) with the Brisbane City pick-up. The $85 fees are paid in cash to the driver on the day, and a $20 surcharge applies on public holidays.
Can children come on the tour?
Yes. The one-day tour is listed as suitable for all ages from 4 years, with lower child prices for guests aged 13 and under. It is not designed for toddlers, and safety vests are provided for anyone who is not a strong swimmer.
What should we bring?
Pack swimwear, a beach towel, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, a water bottle, thongs, walking shoes and insect repellent. Only a small bag is allowed on board, and all snorkelling and kayaking equipment is supplied by the guides.
What happens if the weather turns bad?
Snorkelling, kayaking and tobogganing all depend on tide, wind and weather. If conditions are unsafe, a scenic drive around the island can replace the affected activities, and if the operator cancels a tour outright you can reschedule or take a full refund.
