About Montrose House
Montrose House is a historic country estate on Ormond Street in Sutton Forest, in the Southern Highlands. The homestead was built around 1861 by the Badgery family and served as their summer home for close to 150 years before it began hosting weddings in the 1980s. The property covers 33 acres of formal lawns, rose gardens, old oaks and elms, a pine forest, an orchard, a hazelnut grove and paddocks with goats and ponies. The main residence is still the owners' private home, so the estate opens only for weddings and for viewings by appointment. Each wedding has exclusive use of the grounds for the day. Couples can get ready in the Retreat at Montrose, hold the ceremony in the heritage gardens, and use the Carriage Barn next door as a covered ceremony spot or a quieter corner for drinks later in the evening. After the vows, guests move to a garden party with cocktails from the Greenhouse Bar, canapés served across the gardens, and lawn games such as cricket, corn hole, giant jenga and chess. There is a swing in the garden and a fire pit for the cooler hours. The reception is held in Badgery Hall, a brick room with high ceilings, timber floors, a heritage fireplace, a crystal chandelier and its own ornate bar. It holds up to 130 guests, and the dance floor sits beneath the chandelier. The estate runs on an all-inclusive model, with its own chefs cooking menus built on Southern Highlands and South Coast produce. The events team meets couples before the day and manages set-up, suppliers and timings on the day itself.
