About Port Stephens Yacht Club
Port Stephens Yacht Club is a social and racing sailing club on Ridgeway Avenue at Soldiers Point. Away from race days, its clubhouse is available to hire for private functions, and you don't need to be a member to apply. The building has two levels, and both look out over the marina and the water. You can book the ground floor, the upper floor, or the whole clubhouse for a bigger gathering, and there is plenty of parking on site. The ground floor is the more casual of the two. It has its own licensed bar, indoor seating and a covered outdoor area just outside, which works well for smaller celebrations and daytime get-togethers. Upstairs is the larger room and the one set up for parties. It has a second bar, a dance floor, a preparation kitchen and a balcony over the water, plus a projector, pull-down screen, microphone and speakers for speeches or presentations. The balcony holds up to 25 people at a time. Food is flexible. You can self-cater, bring in an approved outside caterer or ask to use the club barbecue and the upstairs kitchen. Drinks are served through the club's bar, with bar staff organised through the club, and BYO alcohol needs written approval. A private function booking runs for up to six hours, and that window covers decorating, supplier set-up, the event itself and clearing up afterwards. Decorations are welcome once approved, as long as nothing is fixed to the walls or fittings.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be a member to hire the clubhouse?
No. The venue hire application asks whether you are a member or not, and non-members can book. Members pay a lower hire fee.
How much does it cost to hire for a party?
Private functions and celebrations run for up to six hours and cost $440 for non-members or $350 for members. Taking both floors adds $100, and extra approved time is $60 an hour. A $100 deposit, credited to the hire fee, secures an approved booking, and a $300 cleaning and damage bond is refunded after inspection.
Can we bring our own food?
Yes. You can self-cater or use an outside caterer the club has approved. The club barbecue and the upper-floor preparation kitchen can be requested in your application.
How do drinks work?
Both floors have a licensed bar, and service and staffing are arranged with the club, so bar staff fees may apply. BYO alcohol isn't allowed unless the club approves it in writing.
Is there AV and room to dance?
The upper floor has a dance floor, speakers, a microphone, a projector and a pull-down screen. The application lets you choose a playlist, a DJ, live music or a speaker, and finish times follow the club's licence and noise conditions.

I have only just started going the clubhouse and It is great. No machines not even a television. Just good old fashion raising the odd glass and talking with plenty of laughter. Brilliant.
