About Brisbane Sporting Clays

Brisbane Sporting Clays is a not-for-profit, member-run club that has operated its Belmont range since 1984. Alongside its competition shooting, it opens a separate corporate range to beginners, so groups with no experience and no firearms licence can try the sport under close supervision. A session starts with a safety briefing and a run-through of the basics. Your group then splits into squads of five to eight and moves between five or six stations, where one person at a time steps into a safety frame and shoots at four or five targets. Everyone fires 25 rounds at 25 targets, and a scorecard makes it easy to crown a winner or hand out a penalty. Depending on numbers, the shooting takes roughly one to two hours. The $99 price per person covers the range fee, the instructor, the ammunition and targets, a hire gun, and ear and eye protection. Afterwards the clubhouse, set well away from the range, has seating and a canteen selling soft drinks, beer and snacks, and lunch catering or a barbecue can be arranged with your booking. The club hosts bucks and hens parties, birthdays, corporate days and team building for groups of anywhere from four to sixty people, mostly on Saturdays. Send an enquiry with your date and numbers to plan a group booking.

Frequently asked questions

Does anyone in our group need a firearms licence?

No licence is needed for the come-and-try sessions. Every guest is supervised by a licensed instructor the whole time, and each person signs a Queensland Police declaration form at the club on the day. Guests who already hold a licence must bring it to shoot.

How much does it cost and what is included?

The group price is $99 per person including GST. That covers the range fee, an instructor, 25 rounds of ammunition, 25 targets across five areas of the corporate range, a hire gun, and ear and eye protection.

Can we drink during a bucks or hens day?

Alcohol is only served once all shooting has finished, and no BYO alcohol is allowed. Guests need to arrive free of alcohol and drugs, so the club suggests booking the shoot early in the day and saving the celebrations for afterwards in the clubhouse.

Is there a minimum age?

All shooters must be at least 11. Juniors aged 11 to 14 are welcome as part of a family group, while a group of four or more junior shooters must all be 15 or older and come with a guardian.

What should we bring and wear?

Each person needs photo ID, such as a driver licence, proof of age card, student card or passport. Enclosed shoes are compulsory, clothing with offensive slogans is not allowed, and safety glasses are supplied, though sunglasses also do the job.
