About Fitzroy Inn Historic Retreat
Fitzroy Inn Historic Retreat is a heritage-listed sandstone inn on Ferguson Crescent in Mittagong, dating from 1836 and set on five acres of gardens near the foot of Mount Gibraltar. It works as both boutique accommodation and a function venue, hosting weddings, corporate retreats and smaller gatherings. Receptions are usually held in the Grand Marquee, which has a silk lining, clear side panels, a whitewashed timber floor and fairy lights. It takes 80 to 160 guests seated or up to 200 in a cocktail format, and it stands on the inn's old tennis court beside the lawns. Ceremonies can be held by the weir, under the century-old oaks, at the garden gazebo or against the Victorian house, with the verandah and sitting rooms kept as wet-weather choices. Smaller receptions move indoors to the sandstone Conservatory, built into the old stables, or the light-filled Atrium. For corporate groups the inn offers the Conservatory, with a stage, speaker system and microphone, along with the Front Parlour, the Atrium and the marquee by arrangement. Guests also have the library, billiards room and open fires, plus the original dungeons, which can run as a late afterparty space for wedding groups. Catering is arranged through the inn's food partners, and corporate catering comes in full and half day packages. The wedding marquee comes with round or long tables, white chairs, a bridal table and linen, with timber furniture and lounge packages as upgrades. The 21 rooms across the main house, the School Master's Cottage and the apartments let a wedding party reserve the whole property for exclusive use, the night before and the night of the event.

Frequently asked questions
How many guests can Fitzroy Inn hold for a reception?
The Grand Marquee seats between 80 and 160 guests, or holds up to 200 for a cocktail-style reception. Smaller weddings can be held indoors in the sandstone Conservatory.
Where can the ceremony take place?
Outdoor options include the weir, the shade of the old oak trees, the garden gazebo and the front lawn by the Victorian house. The verandah and the sitting rooms serve as indoor or wet-weather alternatives.
Do we get the whole property to ourselves?
Exclusive use applies when your group books every room for the night before and the night of the wedding. If some rooms are not taken up 60 days out, they are released to the public and access is limited to the event spaces during agreed times.
How is a wedding date secured?
A $1,000 hold-the-date deposit confirms the booking and later becomes the bond. The balance is paid in stages of 30 and 50 per cent before the final payment, and payment plans are offered.
Is the inn set up for corporate retreats?
Yes. Groups can use the Conservatory, which has a stage, speaker system and microphone, plus the Front Parlour and Atrium, with the marquee available by arrangement. Catering is offered in full and half day packages.
